At The Smile Studios, we provide root canal treatment designed to save your natural tooth and relieve pain — quickly and comfortably. Serving patients across London and the surrounding areas, our team uses modern techniques to make every visit as straightforward as possible.

What is root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment – also known as endodontics – is a dental procedure that removes damaged or infected tissue (nerves and blood vessels) from inside a tooth. Once the pulp is cleared, the canal is cleaned, shaped, and sealed with a protective filling.

The procedure has a high success rate and allows you to keep your natural tooth for many years to come. Despite its reputation, modern root canal treatment is far more comfortable than people expect — in most cases, it feels little different from having a standard filling.

When do you need root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment becomes necessary when the pulp — the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels inside your tooth — becomes infected or damaged. This can happen through:

  • Tooth decay that has reached the inner pulp
  • A cracked or fractured tooth following injury
  • Repeated dental procedures on the same tooth
  • A deep filling that has allowed bacteria to enter

Left untreated, an infected pulp can lead to a painful abscess, bone loss around the tooth, and ultimately the need for tooth extraction. If you’re experiencing a persistent toothache, sensitivity to heat or cold, or swelling around a tooth, it’s important to seek advice promptly.

Why choose The Smile Studios for root canal treatment?

At The Smile Studios, we understand that a visit for root canal treatment can feel daunting. That’s why our priority is making you feel informed, comfortable, and at ease from the moment you arrive.

  • Gentle technique — most patients are surprised by how comfortable treatment feels
  • Emergency appointments available, including Sundays
  • Transparent pricing with no hidden fees
  • Experienced, caring team — many patients have been with us for years

Root canal treatment usually takes place over one to two appointments. Here’s what to expect:

Step 1: Consultation & diagnosis

We take an X-ray to assess the extent of the infection and clearly discuss your treatment plan and options.

Step 2: Numbing & access

Local anaesthetic is applied so you feel comfortable throughout. A small opening is made to access the pulp chamber.

Step 3: Cleaning the canal

Infected pulp tissue is carefully removed. The canal is shaped, cleaned, and medication may be applied between appointments.

Step 4: Sealing & restoration

The canal is permanently sealed. A crown or filling is then placed to restore the tooth’s strength and appearance.

What our patients say

“I had a terrible toothache and called The Smile Studios. They made an emergency appointment the next day — on a Sunday afternoon! Dr Mehdi Dehgani did the root canal, and after the first session, the pain was gone. I have not even realised he made the injection before the treatment. I am so healthy and happy now.”
— ★★★★★ Isil Dursun

“A big thank you to the team at The Smile Studios who helped fix a cracked premolar with a root canal and crown. Rafidah was totally on top of scheduling, Carmel did the diagnostics and prep, and Mani stepped in for the crown — he was excellent. Great job all round, including Noor.”
— ★★★★★ John Masters

FAQs

1. Is root canal treatment painful?

Modern root canal treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. Most patients are surprised by how straightforward it is. Some mild tenderness after treatment is normal and usually settles within a few days.

2. How many appointments does root canal treatment take?

Root canal treatment typically takes one to two appointments. The first visit involves cleaning and medicating the canal; the second seals it and places a crown or filling to restore the tooth.

3. How much does root canal treatment cost in London?

At The Smile Studios, root canal treatment starts from £450 for a single-root tooth, £650 for a premolar (two roots), and £800 for a molar (three roots) — all including X-rays. An initial consultation is £60. Exact fees are confirmed once we’ve assessed your tooth.

4. How long does a root canal last?

With good oral hygiene and routine dental check-ups, a root canal-treated tooth can last many years — often a lifetime. Placing a crown after treatment significantly improves long-term durability.

5. Do I need a crown after root canal treatment?

A crown is often recommended after root canal treatment, particularly for back teeth that bear the load of chewing. It protects the tooth from fracture and restores its appearance and function. Your dentist will advise you on what’s most appropriate for your situation.

6. Can I drive after root canal treatment?

Yes, in most cases, you can drive after root canal treatment. The procedure uses local anaesthetic only, so once the numbness has worn off (usually within a couple of hours), you are generally fine to drive. If you have any concerns, please speak to your dentist beforehand.
